Job Details

  • Location: San Francisco, California
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 5:15 PM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Float: Ability to float to other facilities within the system
  • Locals Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Experience in Orthopedics, ENT Surgery, and Ophthalmology

Job Responsibilities

  • Circulate and scrub in the OR, particularly in orthopedic and other surgical specialties listed above
  • Float to other facilities as needed

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including specific county and nationwide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Sex offender search as required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
  • Two negative TB tests required (one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
  • Required immunizations or titers with documentation for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
  • Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year of start
  • Unit-specific competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 12 months of start
  • Core training parts I, II, and III with passing scores of 80% or higher, updated annually
  • Pass/fail Telemetry exam on first day of orientation (specific to certain units)
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs

Additional Requirements

  • Completed references must be submitted at time of application
  • Current and valid government-issued photo ID matching professional license (driver’s license, state ID, or US passport)
  • Updated resume including last 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps of 30 days or more
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Employment history verification for 7 years (attestations considered case-by-case, not accepted for most recent employment)

Important Notes

  • Candidates must review and initial facility-specific policies including COVID-19 preparedness, parking, uniform, and cybersecurity awareness prior to start
  • Learning modules must be completed before Day 1 for Tuesday starts; other start days complete during orientation
  • Fit testing can be completed onsite as a last resort with prior appointment
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval and documentation
  • Pass/fail Telemetry exam includes ECG knowledge and medication administration; calculators are not allowed during the test
