Description

Registered Nurse - Surgery (Cardiovascular Operating Room)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:30 PM


Job Description

  • Must be able to circulate during surgeries; scrubbing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with heart and lung transplants required.
  • Ability to circulate all cardiac cases.
  • Required to take call and holiday call.

Required Qualifications

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.
  • CVOR experience must be within the last year.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine: Preferred but not required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with approval.
  • MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Tdap: Vaccination within last 10 years required; no declinations accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of full series or partial series with signed declination accepted; positive titers within 15 years accepted.
  • Influenza vaccine: Required during flu season (October–March) or mask-wearing with specific declination forms.
  • Tuberculosis testing: 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with negative results within last 6 months; if positive, clear chest X-ray and current TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit test for N95 respirators completed within 1 year prior to start (specific mask models listed).
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start confirming ability to work without restrictions.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Completed I-9 or attestation confirming eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Ohio fingerprint-based criminal background check (BCI&I) and FBI check if resident less than 5 years; attestation allowed if fingerprints pending.
  • National criminal background check including sex offender registry within 6 months prior to start.
  • OIG exclusion check within 6 months prior to start.
  • SAM/EPLS/GSA/OFAC screening within 6 months prior to start.
  • Drug screen (10-panel) within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Education verification through third party; international education requires equivalency documentation.
  • Employment verification for last 5 years through third party.
  • Skills checklist specific to clinical area completed within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Competency exam for relevant department with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Core competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics) with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Badge photo (headshot with plain background) required prior to onboarding.
  • Submission packet required: Resume, 2 professional references (within last 2 years), job application, and employment history form.

Additional Notes

  • Must provide non-expired photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).
  • Completion of required safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance; annual renewal required.
  • This is a clinical position requiring direct patient care in a high-acuity surgical environment.
  • Candidate must be able to work extended shifts and be available for call coverage including holidays.

This position is ideal for an experienced cardiovascular OR RN comfortable with complex cardiac surgeries including transplants, who meets rigorous licensure, certification, health, and background requirements.
