Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Position Overview

  • Patient Population: Infants to Geriatrics (primarily adult RRT, with some pediatric intubated patients)
  • Facility Type: Level 2 trauma center, interventional stroke certified, Level 3 NICU (regional transport resource)
  • Responsibilities include managing non-invasive and conventional ventilation, aerosol therapy, bedside pulmonary function tests, arterial lines, oxygen management, patient education, arterial and capillary blood gases, and line draws
  • Trauma experience required
  • Pulmonary function testing (Spirometry) preferred
  • Floating required within facility and sister campus as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
  • Holidays: Expected to work 1-2 major holidays if they fall within assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)

Shift Details

  • Night shift only
  • Shift hours: 18:30 to 7:00 (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Total hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification

Systems and Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic
  • Medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Communication: SBAR
  • Ventilators: Viasys Vela, Viasys Avea
  • Patient monitors: GE Carescape

Orientation and Compliance

  • Maximum Return to Office (RTO) time: 7 days
  • Full compliance with all onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days prior to start; must be complete before starting
  • Education verification required; diplomas required for RRTs
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC)
  • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Tdap vaccine highly recommended but not required

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by agency
  • Color blindness test required; alternative assessment available if needed
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and critical care areas; up to 3 attempts allowed

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Verification of most recent employer required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
  • Two clinical references required by agency
