Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery)

Location

• Garden City, Kansas
• Rural hospital setting

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Shift Details

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours guaranteed per week
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: none
• Call or standby required per policy
• Floating required per policy (may float between Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Mother-Baby, Helping Hands, and other units as needed)

Unit Information

• Labor & Delivery/Postpartum/Mother-Baby unit
• 12 LDRP rooms
• 1 OR suite on the unit for C-sections
• 1 triage bed
• Approximately 1.5 births per day (50-60 per month)
• Follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
• Charge nurse typically takes an assignment
• 1 surgical tech on unit
• No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia 24/7 coverage
• No adult telemetry; fetal monitoring required (EFM systems: GE and OBIX)
• No respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) on unit

Required Certifications

• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring

Required Experience and Skills

• Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) experience
• Couplet care (mother and newborn care)
• Ability to circulate in the OR
• Ability to titrate drips, including Pitocin

Orientation and Hiring Process

• Unit-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts
• Orientation includes floating between related units
• Must be in-state for orientation week (some modules may be remote)
• Hiring process includes candidate interview and interview with clinical team (no unit manager involvement)

Additional Notes

• Dress code: any professional colors
• Must submit driver’s license (radius requirement: 60 miles)
