Description

Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Medical/Surgical and Stepdown (Mixed acute care surgical floor)
Patient Population:

  • Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
  • Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
  • Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision.
  • Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments; note changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data; intervene as necessary.
  • Administer medications, regulate and monitor IV infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families.
  • Inform patients and families about hospital procedures and make referrals as needed.
  • Delegate tasks to support staff.
  • May be assigned additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Education

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or higher) preferred.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN license (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Additional Information

  • This is NOT a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position.
  • Nurses may be assigned to either Medical/Surgical or Stepdown patients depending on unit needs and nurse skill set.
  • ICU nurses may be floated to work Stepdown patients based on acuity.
