Job Opportunity: Ortho RN Days
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
Unit and Patient Population
- 24-bed orthopedic unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio up to 1:6
- Patient population includes postoperative adult patients recovering from Orthopedic, Total Joint Replacement, Podiatry, and Spine surgeries
- Length of stay varies based on surgery and discharge needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum of 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, including orthopedic surgery experience
- Orthopedic nursing experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience
- Specialty: Orthopedic Nursing
- Required years of experience: Minimum 2 years, including recent orthopedic surgery experience
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Documentation of immunizations and health screenings including:
- Two MMR vaccines or positive titer (no declinations accepted)
- Two Varicella vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
- Tuberculosis screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes, chest X-ray if positive, and annual TB questionnaire
- Fit test for respiratory protection required, preferably completed prior to start
- Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter
Documentation and Onboarding Requirements
- Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references required prior to submission
- Current, unexpired driver’s license or state ID matching address on file
- Criminal background check including Social Security trace, OIG search, and national sex offender registry within 90 days prior to start
- Employment and education verifications completed within 90 days prior to start
- Signed assignment agreement and onboarding attestations completed onsite or prior to start
- Badge photo (forward-facing, white or blue background, no alterations) required for onboarding
Additional Notes
- Pharmacology, medical-surgical, EKG, and core competency exams must be updated every 3 years with a minimum passing score of 80% and only two attempts allowed
- Skills checklist for orthopedic specialty to be completed within one year of start and updated annually
- Optional unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leadership within one week of start
This position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized orthopedic nursing environment with a focus on postoperative care for adult patients recovering from various orthopedic surgeries.
