Registered Nurse – Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Job Description
- Work in Cardiac Medicine ICU with focus on:
- Swan-Ganz catheter management
- Vasoactive drips
- Arterial lines
- Advanced heart failure care
- Post-procedure care including STEMIs and TAVRs
- Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday
- Time off: Maximum 40 hours approved; no time off approval around Labor Day
- Must adhere to facility float policy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Strong familiarity with Swan-Ganz catheter management
- Strong familiarity with vasoactive drips
- Strong familiarity with arterial lines
- Strong familiarity with advanced heart failure (advanced HF) care
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal history check (all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every 30 days
- Education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
- Abuse registry search (only if assigned to behavioral health or specific units)
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold within 12 months; chest x-ray if positive)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations allowed for measles
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required; additional antigen titer if antibody low/negative
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no exemptions)
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
- Fit testing for patient-facing roles (completed onsite if required)
Orientation and Testing
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions (minimum passing score required)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting required for behavioral health or specific units; otherwise may be case-by-case
- Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
- Compliance with facility-specific screening and release authorization forms required
This position offers a challenging critical care nursing role in a cardiac ICU setting with advanced cardiac monitoring and post-procedure care responsibilities on a night shift travel contract.
