Registered Nurse (ICU) - Chandler, AZ
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 full years of recent ICU experience, including experience in either neuro or cardiovascular ICU care. This position involves working primarily night shifts with 12-hour shifts and a typical schedule of 36 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
- Active Arizona nursing license or compact license
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail Simulation Lab on Day 1 of orientation
- Ability to titrate drips including Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers with required ICU experience are welcome
Unit Details
- ICU types: Surgical ICU (Trauma Neuro Surgery), Medical ICU (Medical Cardiac + Overflow), and Cardiovascular ICU
- Bed counts: 32 beds (Surgical ICU), 36 beds (Medical Cardiac ICU), 12 beds (Overflow ICU)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- Common patient diagnoses: Level 1 trauma cases, neuro-surgical cases, CVA, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, vascular surgeries, post-op cardiac surgeries including CABG, valves, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem heart, esophagectomies
- No nurse aides on unit; sitters and Health Unit Secretary available
- Charge nurse role required (do not take patients)
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 with advanced ventilator equipment (Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s Bipap, Airvo)
- No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs interpret their own cardiac strips using GE monitors
- Hospitalist or intensivist coverage 24/7
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Friday-Saturday night shifts; Saturday-Sunday day shifts)
- Holiday: May have 1 holiday off during assignment
- No additional call or standby shifts required, but low census days may occur up to 3 times per contract
- Self-scheduling allowed, but manager may balance shifts as needed
- Floating required between ICU units and telemetry with ratios of 1:3 or 1:4 as needed
- Scrub color: Navy
Orientation & Additional Notes
- Unit-specific orientation lasts 1-2 days
- Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
- Preference for candidates with experience in similar-sized ICUs
- Floating may include sister ICU facilities within the system
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any affiliated facility within the past year
