Registered Nurse (Med/Tele/PCU) - Bismarck, North Dakota
Job Details
- Specialty: Med/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Hours per Day: 12
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: Occasional 5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions, including cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (BiPAP), general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in North Dakota
- ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience is mandatory
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Experience with titrating drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (Levo not used)
- Comfortable working with BiPAP, tracheostomies, Airvo, and other respiratory equipment troubleshooting
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not required
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Job Responsibilities
- Provide care on a telemetry/cardiac-focused unit
- Titrate drips as ordered
- Read and interpret telemetry strips without assistance
- Collaborate with charge nurses who occasionally take a light patient load
- Work alongside nurse aides/patient care technicians (goal ratio 1:10)
- Float to other areas as needed, including PCU, medical-surgical, and emergency room holds/boarding
- Participate in weekend and holiday rotations every other week
Orientation & Scheduling
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each), typically Friday and Saturday of the first week
- Schedule managed by unit manager; 7a-7p shifts with no more than weekly rotation to nights
- Weekend and holiday work required every other week
- No call or standby requirements
- Scrub color is flexible; any color scrubs allowed
Additional Information
- Radius restriction: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities within the radius
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
- The unit functions primarily as a telemetry/cardiac care unit with some PCU level care overflow
This position is ideal for RNs with solid telemetry and PCU experience who are comfortable managing complex cardiac patients and titrating drips in a fast-paced environment.
