Description

Respiratory Therapist - Akron, Ohio

Job Type

  • Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Valid Driver's License

Experience

  • At least 2 years of clinical acute care experience in respiratory therapy or similar area
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Essential Job Functions

  • Confirm and assess physician orders for appropriateness and quality patient care
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document patient response and tolerance to respiratory therapy
  • Explain treatment procedures and address patient concerns
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Perform respiratory/pulmonary procedures per department protocols
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Set up and maintain respiratory equipment; administer medical gases and medications
  • Assist with stocking supplies and complete billing documentation for services rendered
  • Participate in patient care teams, quality improvement programs, and policy development
  • Educate patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals
  • Attend in-services, meetings, and conferences to maintain proficiency and stay current on new techniques and equipment

Health and Compliance Requirements (Must be current or updated as required)

  • Fit Test for N95 respirators (3M 1870+ N95, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small)
  • Pre-employment physical with assessment of ability to perform essential job functions
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • MMR (titer or 2 vaccines; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (titer or complete vaccine series; signed declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; no declinations accepted)
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with negative results; no declinations accepted
  • Annual TB questionnaire (facility-specific form)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended (medical/religious exemptions reviewed case-by-case)
  • Influenza vaccine required October–April (medical/religious exemptions with approval)

Background and Credential Verification

  • Comprehensive criminal background check (FCRA compliant, 7-year search, SSN trace, nationwide)
  • OIG exclusion search within 90 days of start
  • EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) search within 90 days of start
  • Third-party education verification
  • Unit-specific competency exam, skills checklist, and core competencies completed annually and within one year of start
  • Resume with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care experience

This position requires a licensed, experienced respiratory therapist ready to work a night shift in an acute care environment with a strong emphasis on patient safety, quality care, and compliance with regulatory standards.
