Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend rotation and some holidays
- Typical weekly hours: 36
Job Description
- Care for ICU and Intermediate Care (IMC) patient populations
- ICU experience required; neurosurgery experience preferred
- Must have experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Telemetry test must be passed prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum of 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, county, and nationwide sex offender searches
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form completion required
- Education verification as applicable (RN diploma/degree verification)
- Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
- Physical exam and immunization documentation per facility standards (including TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemptions)
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing policies
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with appropriate follow-up if positive history
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions allowed with approval
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer; medical or religious exemptions allowed with approval
- Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or facility-specific declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Tdap, Meningococcal for specific departments)
Testing and Competency Exams
- Telemetry pass/fail exam required before start and annually thereafter
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Facility-specific rhythm interpretation remediation course required if second telemetry exam attempt is failed
Additional Notes
- Two clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard)
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required
- Passport-style photo required for badge issuance (specific photo guidelines apply)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with telemetry skills and willingness to work in a neuro ICU setting on a travel contract basis.
