Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Michigan, Iron Mountain
Job Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day/Night rotation
- Hours: 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every or every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday; sometimes a 48-hour stretch Thursday–Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Work scheduled holidays as assigned
- Call Requirement: None
- Floating: Required to float within the hospital
- Scheduling: Manager creates schedule; staff expected to fill gaps; grouping shifts possible for consistent day or night schedules
Patient Population & Work Environment
- Primarily adult patients; pediatric patients mainly in ER; occasional OB deliveries and critical neonates
- Coverage areas include ER, inpatient floors, OR, and ACU
- Typically 2 respiratory therapists during the day, 1 at night
- Must be comfortable being the sole RT on site during shifts
- Hospitalist present during the day; telemedicine coverage at night; ER doctor on site 24/7 responding to codes
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and set up ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, arterial blood gases (ABG), nebulizers, conscious sedation, and end tidal CO2 monitoring
- Respond to Rapid Response Teams (RRT) and code blues, including c-sections and conscious sedations
- Intubate patients with physician present (experience preferred)
- Participate in department-specific orientation (2 days)
Required Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential via NBRC
- Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), PALS (AHA)
- Experience responding to RRT and code situations (code blues, c-sections, conscious sedation)
- Strongly prefer candidates with prior travel experience
- Ability to work independently as the only RT on site
Equipment Experience
- Familiarity with Drager ventilators, Phillips BiPAP/CPAP V60s, Arivo high flow devices, and Hamilton ventilators (future use)
Additional Information
- Scrubs provided on site; wearing own scrubs or street clothes into work is allowed
- Combined locker room with separate bathrooms for changing
- Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- Candidates who have previously worked for this employer must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment before reapplying
