ICU Registered Nurse Travel Opportunity

Location: Grass Valley, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking experienced ICU nurses for a travel contract in a 10-bed ICU/MedSurg Concentrated Care unit with swing bed capacity. The patient population primarily includes medical ICU cases such as respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, GI bleed, and psych holds (with sitters if agitated). Pediatric patients are present but travelers will not be assigned pediatric care. Some PACU patients may be cared for after hours.

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours (start at 6:45 PM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate working 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) with core staff
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling available but finalized by manager; schedules released 4 weeks in advance; opportunity for overtime and extra shifts
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation with preceptor; facility-wide orientation held in Sacramento (not on-site)
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:2 in ICU, 1:3 in stepdown and swing beds
• Charge Nurse Role: Yes, generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• Support Staff: Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictate
• Technology: EMR system is Cerner; use of Tele-med robots; must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Unit Layout: Horseshoe design

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• Ability to manage ventilated patients
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Care for critically ill adult patients with complex medical conditions
• Work alongside hospitalists or intensivists on-site
• Collaborate with 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy teams
• No IV team support; nurses expected to manage IVs independently

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must complete a dysrhythmia exam (basic) through Relias within 24-48 hours of acceptance; pass/fail with two attempts allowed
• Two supervisory references required at submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years)
• COVID-19 vaccination declinations accepted with physician’s note (medical) or without documentation (religious)
• Scrub color: Navy (under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets optional but must be navy)
