Unit Overview

• 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit with a diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke care.
• Fast-paced, challenging environment suitable for both graduate and experienced nurses.
• Patient-centered nursing focused on safety, quality care, and positive patient outcomes.
• Active Unit Based Council (Shared Governance) promoting teamwork and a healthy work environment.
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration using clinical pathways, patient education, and interactive communication.
• New team members receive supportive orientation to foster professional growth.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Important Policies

• Strict 3-strike attendance policy: termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late for scheduled shifts, with exceptions for documented communicable disease or hospitalization. Policy effective starting 6/1/2024.
• Full-time employees of the health system are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
• Local traveler policy: permanent address within 35 miles of the facility is considered local.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans based on comprehensive assessments.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise and serve as a clinical resource and professional role model.
• Engage in lifelong learning through certification, advanced practice, and continuing education.
• Communicate effectively using SBAR and interdisciplinary methods.
• Manage time efficiently and assist team members to enhance overall team performance.
• Perform duties consistent with competency-based objectives specific to the unit.

Contract Length

• Approximately 13 weeks.
