Description

Registered Nurse - Ortho (Travel/Contract)

Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Floating to like units may be required based on skill set.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend (subject to change).
  • Medication system used: Omnicell.
  • Must have at least 1 year of EPIC experience.
  • Prefer candidates with experience in teaching and community hospital settings.
  • Not accepting first-time travelers.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in specialty required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Orthopedics, including Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, alias searches, and state/county verifications.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
  • Education verification of highest level completed.
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (not required for 100% remote).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required; second vaccine may be pending but must be completed within 28 days of first dose.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
  • Respirator Fit Test to be completed onsite during orientation.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of online modules within 72 hours of assignment; approximately 12 hours of coursework.
  • 16 hours of non-billable orientation onsite separate from online modules.
  • Pass/Fail testing (medication and arrhythmia exams) required prior to orientation with two attempts allowed; passing score 84%.
  • Core competency training (Parts I, II, III) required annually, covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, and patient safety goals.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required annually.
  • Color blindness testing required for nurses assigned to Emergency Department or Pediatric ER.

  • Badge photo required prior to start with specific background and quality requirements.
  • Floating policy may apply but is not required for this location.
  • Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted.

Summary

This is a night shift travel RN position in orthopedic nursing requiring at least 1 year of specialty experience and prior travel experience. Candidates must hold an active Tennessee RN license, have EPIC experience, and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, drug screening, and mandatory training/testing is required. Orientation includes online modules and onsite training with competency exams.
