Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work primarily on a step-down unit (no ventilators or pressor support) with patients requiring higher oxygen demands, dialysis, atrial fibrillation, and post-heart catheterization care.
  • Manage drips including heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, and sotalol initiation.
  • Telemetry monitoring required.
  • Floating to similar units may be required.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend, subject to change based on need.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee.
  • Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year).
  • ACLS certification.
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
  • Background check covering 7 years within 12 months of start date, including alias and multi-state searches.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Various federal and state sanction checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC) must be completed within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days for ongoing assignments.
  • Primary source verification of Tennessee RN license within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification of highest level completed.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually (5-panel minimum).
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; second vaccine can be pending if collected within 28 days of first.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption required by specified deadlines (not required for remote workers).
  • Respirator fit test to be completed onsite during orientation.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of online modules (approximately 12 hours) within 72 hours of assignment; mandatory before starting onsite.
  • Pass/fail testing for medication and arrhythmia competency exams required prior to orientation (two attempts allowed, 84% passing score).
  • Annual core competencies training (Parts I, II, III) including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA bloodborne pathogens, and patient safety goals.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required annually.
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, plain background, no alterations).

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy may apply but is not required for this location.
  • Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced environment with complex cardiac and dialysis patients.
  • Documentation and certifications must not expire within 30 days of start date.
  • Candidates without certain certifications (e.g., TNCC, ENPC) may be allowed to start but will need to obtain them if working over 1 year with the employer.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with telemetry, cardiac drips, and complex patient care in a step-down setting during night shifts.
