Registered Nurse – Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)


Job Overview

Seeking experienced RNs for a travel contract in a telemetry float pool covering multiple units including Telemetry, Medical-Surgical, and ICU-level care. Floating between units and two campuses (9 miles apart) is required, with notification given 1.5 hours before shift start. Mid-shift floating to different units may occur.


Units Covered & Patient Types

CV Telemetry (B3A)

  • 32 beds, centralized telemetry monitoring
  • Patient types: post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
  • Common drips: Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only)
  • No pediatric patients (15 years and older)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor

Neuro Telemetry (A3 Neuro)

  • 28 beds, centralized telemetry monitoring
  • Patient types: neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post-TPA
  • No ICP monitoring
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor

Medical-Surgical (C5)

  • 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
  • Patient types: ortho (knee/hip replacements), urological, abdominal, Whipple, women’s surgeries (no OB/GYN)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus one major and one minor holiday
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor

Medical-Surgical (B2C)

  • 29 beds, general MedSurg patients requiring telemetry
  • Common drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem (titrate down only)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), plus one major and one minor holiday
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor
  • New grad training unit with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Arizona RN license or compact license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required for Neuro unit

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of current telemetry nursing experience
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips confidently

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (2 attempts max)
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved medical/religious declination
  • Floating required across Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cath Lab, ER, observation floors, and between two campuses
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs
  • No ventilator patients on Tele units
  • Weekend and holiday work required as specified per unit
  • Charge nurse roles available; charge nurses do not have patient assignments
  • Patient care technicians support staffing (ratio approx. 1 PCT per 16 patients)
  • Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
  • Hospitalists available during day and on-call at night

Staffing & Work Environment

  • 12-hour night shifts (7 PM – 7 AM)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:4 depending on unit
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Use of Spectralink phones for call light system on MedSurg units
  • Floating to similar or lower acuity units expected

This position is ideal for RNs with solid telemetry experience who are comfortable with frequent floating and working in a dynamic hospital environment across multiple units and campuses.
