Description

Job Opportunity: Emergency Room RN (Night Shift)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Night shift, 6:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week)
Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in the Emergency Room during night shifts.
  • Weekend availability as needed.
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years of experience in Emergency Room nursing.

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) certified
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA certified
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA certified
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – current, renewed every 4 years
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification – Group A updated yearly, Groups B-F every 2 years
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) – 8-hour course, updated every 2 years
  • Current license verification and primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start

Required Licenses and Verifications

  • Valid RN license verified through Nursys within 30 days prior to start
  • Current professional nursing license and primary source verification
  • Driver’s license or state ID (must be current and match address on file)

Required Exams and Competency Testing

  • Specialty exam demonstrating competency in Emergency Room nursing (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
  • Core competencies exam covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory topics (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
  • EKG exam with a minimum passing score of 80%, updated every 3 years
  • Epic electronic health record test-out and training checklist with signed attestation

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Proof of two Varicella vaccines, serological immunity, or documented history (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
  • 2-step PPD or IGRA testing for tuberculosis, with annual TB questionnaire
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite)
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter

Additional Onboarding Requirements

  • Completion of onboarding education attestation and nursing contract worker onboarding
  • Biometric consent and badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background)
  • Completion of pre-hire modules including Nova StatStrip training
  • Criminal background check including Social Security trace, OIG search, and National Sex Offender registry (updated annually)
  • Employment and education verifications completed within 90 days prior to start
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions

Notes

  • Only two attempts allowed for specialty and competency exams.
  • Some optional checklists may be required by unit leadership after onboarding.
  • Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement for this position.
