Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced ER Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 56 beds (expandable to 60-70 with hall beds). The ER includes a fast track area (6 beds), a separate triage area (5 beds), and an 18-bed holding area for inpatients awaiting placement. The unit also has a locked hall with 6 private psychiatric/seclusion rooms.
Patient Population & Work Environment
- Average patient volume: 170-200 patients per day
- Common diagnoses: Cardiac, Stroke, Sepsis, DKA, Altered Mental Status, Respiratory issues, Abdominal pain, Mental Health
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 (up to 1:4 for low acuity patients)
- In-house security present
- ED staff includes physicians, mid-level providers, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, CNAs, and paramedics
- EMR system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (travelers with 1 year experience in larger trauma settings may be considered)
- Active Washington State RN license or Compact License
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC
- Ability to manage ER holds and participate in triage testing if assigned
Certifications & Skills
- Proficient with RT equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen) managed by RTs; ED techs perform EKGs
- Ability to read telemetry strips
- Phlebotomy primarily performed by nurses or ED techs
Orientation & Training
- Orientation includes 1 day (8-10 hours) of compliance, policies, education, and training
- 2nd day (12 hours) department-specific orientation
- Orientation/education hours not guaranteed during first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shifts: 12-hour day and evening shifts
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Must work holidays in November/December; one holiday off may be considered if unit demands allow
- No floating required
- No call or standby requirement; extra shifts available but not mandatory
- Shift schedules based on department needs and traveler patterns
- Dress code: Any professional scrub colors
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) will be considered during the first full week of assignment
- Manager cannot accommodate same schedules/shifts for multiple travelers submitted together
- Transport assists with patient movement to adjacent radiology department
