Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma ICU (TICU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- Trauma ICU with 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4 in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient population includes adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
- Common diagnoses: trauma injuries (level 1 trauma center), sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, cardiac arrest
- Use of advanced monitoring and devices: CVPs, IABP, Impella (core staff will take if no experience), arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
- Use of Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol and Bell Mont rapid transfuse
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
- No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips using Draeger heart monitoring system with centralized telemetry
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:18
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
- RN skills exam during orientation (open book, must pass with 90% or contract terminated)
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Self-scheduling allowed, managed by unit manager based on needs
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Fast-paced environment caring for critically ill patients
- Desired nurse attributes: critical thinking, personable, positive attitude, team player
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Candidates must live within 50 miles of the facility
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain large healthcare systems (excluded employers)
- First-time travel nurses will not be accepted; prior travel experience is required
- Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
This position requires a highly skilled RN with trauma ICU experience, strong critical thinking, and the ability to work independently in a demanding environment.
