Description

Registered Nurse – Med Surg/Telemetry

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Start Date: ASAP


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:7 (team nursing model with support from PCC, RN, etc.)
  • On-Call: As needed
  • Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend blocks may be considered)
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Large hospital experience required
  • Prior travel experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have 3+ years recent experience in this specialty
  • Local candidates not accepted (strict 100-mile radius rule)
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions apply and must be submitted with application

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
  • Experience in a large hospital setting
  • Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS and BLS certifications must reflect candidate’s legal name
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required annually
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) required annually
  • EPIC experience questionnaire required for RNs; opportunity to test out of EPIC training during orientation if experienced
  • Fit mask test (3M N-95 1860 or 1870+ masks only) required within 1 year prior to start
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred but not required

Background & Documentation Requirements

  • Two forms of government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license, social security card, passport)
  • Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal searches, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Sex offender search required separately from background check
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required
  • Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation required annually or if employed with agency for 1+ year

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Proof of immunizations or positive antibody titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no pending or instant tests accepted)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats/head coverings except religious, no glasses glare, taken within last 6 months)
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
  • Onsite fit test and questionnaires (e.g., Cerner, EPIC) may be required depending on experience

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not be submitted to multiple job IDs/facilities simultaneously
  • Weekend block scheduling is generally not accommodated
  • All required documents must be submitted timely to avoid delays in start date

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience, trauma center exposure, and prior travel assignments who are ready to work in a fast-paced, Level I trauma acute care setting.
