Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / MS/Tele
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Job Description
- Medical Surgical nursing with Telemetry (MS/Tele) specialty
- Team nursing model with a 1:7 patient ratio; additional support from PCC and other RNs
- Level I Trauma center experience required
- Large hospital experience required
- On-call and weekend shifts required on a rotating basis
- No block scheduling except possible weekend blocks
- Strict 100-mile radius rule; local candidates not accepted
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 3+ years recent experience
- Prior travel experience required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing (due to first-timers policy)
- Valid Tennessee RN license or multistate license compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines; pending licenses not accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required and must be renewed annually (except for pediatric hospital assignments)
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
- Up-to-date immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (declinations generally not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30); mask required if exempt
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start date
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year, with a clear pass result (no facial hair allowed if it interferes)
Experience & Skills
- Recent experience in a Level I Trauma center environment
- Experience working in large hospital settings
- Prior travel nursing experience required (minimum one prior travel contract)
- Ability to work night shifts and rotate weekends/on-call as needed
Documentation & Compliance
- Two forms of government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license, social security card, passport)
- Background check within 60 days including statewide, county, federal, and education verification (international checks not required)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
- Separate sex offender search required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required
- Submission of all required documents at time of offer; no late submissions accepted
- Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, no piercings visible)
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
- Facility-specific dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidery allowed
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist and competency exams must be current (within 1 year) and updated annually
- Core competency training (Parts I, II, III) required annually for case managers (if applicable)
- EPIC questionnaire required for RNs; opportunity to test out of EPIC training if experienced
- Internal evaluation required if employed with agency for 1 year or more
- References: Two recent professional references required

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with Telemetry skills who have prior travel nursing experience and are comfortable working nights in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma center environment.
