Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - L&D Floor Manager

Location: Oxnard, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Floor Manager for a travel contract in a hospital setting. The role involves managing L&D and Postpartum (PP) units, including charge nurse responsibilities and shift management.

Unit Details

• Unit: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum
• L&D Beds: 7
• Triage Beds: 4 plus 2 overflow beds
• Postpartum Beds: 27 with a 5-bed nursery
• Births: Approximately 3 births per day (1,545 per year)
• Common Patient Types: High-risk deliveries, any gestational age, EMT drop-offs, substance abuse withdrawal, many Spanish-speaking patients, patients without prenatal care
• Transfers: Critically ill patients transferred to higher-level facilities

Certifications & Licenses Required

• Active California RN License
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIH Certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWOHNN intermediate or advanced preferred)

Experience Requirements

• Valid RN license in California
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
• Postpartum experience
• Experience in Manager roles
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWOHNN certifications

Work Schedule & Shifts

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holidays: Typically one major and one minor holiday worked alongside permanent staff
• Call: Optional, preferred if willing to take call

Orientation & Training

• Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse/Shift Manager role for L&D and PP units
• Resource nurses available for breaks
• OB techs assist with C-sections, deliveries, stocking supplies, and patient intake
• 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support
• OB/Neonatologist available on call 24/7 with 30-minute response time
• No IV team or ventilators on unit

Equipment & Systems

• Fetal Heart Monitoring System: FetalLink (integrates with Cerner EMR)
• EMR System: Cerner
• Telemetry: Phillips system used
• Scrub Color: Navy

Additional Notes

• L&D nurses float to Postpartum and NICU (care for grower/feeders)
• Postpartum nurses float to L&D and assist in NICU as needed
• Patient population includes high-risk and complex cases
• 8-hour varied day shifts also available (40 hours/week)

This position is ideal for an experienced L&D nurse with leadership skills, flexibility to float between units, and a willingness to work a travel contract in a busy hospital environment.
