Registered Nurse (Med Surg/Telemetry - Infusion/Oncology)
Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- 27 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Day/Evening: 1:4-5
- Night: 1:6 (can be 1:7 if short staffed)
- Patient population includes oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, weakness, and other complex acute care patients
- No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required; internal nurses provide treatment expertise
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Acute care experience with comfort managing complex patients
- Experience with IV drips and titration required (insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, octreotide, blood transfusions)
- Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory
Job Responsibilities
- Titrate drips as needed
- Be telemetry aware; centralized telemetry techs monitor and read strips (nurses not required to interpret strips)
- May be asked to step into Charge Nurse role if comfortable, especially on night shift
- Float primarily within med-surg units; occasional short shifts outside med-surg for support tasks
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: Day (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) or Evening (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
- Some flexibility to work 11:00 AM–11:30 PM or variable day/evening schedules
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays in winter; every other holiday during other times
- No call or standby requirements
- Scheduler works with travelers on requests but block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
Support Staff & Environment
- Charge nurse and house supervisor on all shifts; charge nurse takes a modified patient assignment
- Nurse aide ratios: 1:7-9 (day/evening), 1:14 (night)
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for multi-unit coverage (CPAP, BiPAP, high flow O2)
- Scrub color flexible; no logos from other health systems allowed
- Orientation: 1 day classroom/computer training plus one 12-hour floor shift
Additional Notes
- Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- Travelers will not be accepted as part of a travel pair or travel duo
