Description

Registered Nurse Emergency Department

Location: Elmira, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Unit Details: Emergency Department with 48 treatment spaces, patient ratio approximately 1:5


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a busy Emergency Department setting during night shifts.
  • Work with a patient ratio of about 1 nurse to 5 patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification
  • 8 hours of stroke training
  • Successful completion of Centralus Core Competency Exam
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid Driver's License

Health and Safety Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination (optional).
  • MMR: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; if negative/equivocal, vaccination series must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; if negative/equivocal, vaccination series must be completed within 30 days of start.
  • Tdap: Must be up to date within the last 10 years or have a specific declination form.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or declination form required.
  • TB Test: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:
    • Two PPD skin tests (one within 12 months, one within 3 months) or
    • One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months.
    • For past positive TB tests, chest X-ray within 12 months may be required.
  • Fit Test: Annual fit test required within last 12 months; must be completed prior to start.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Physical/Health Statement within past 12 months confirming no restrictions, including vitals and vision screening.
  • Valid US driver’s license or state ID (not expired).
  • Background check within 30 days of start including:
    • SSN address trace for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
    • County and national criminal searches
    • FACIS 3 check
  • Drug screen: 9+ panel excluding marijuana (testing for marijuana is prohibited and results including it will be rejected).
  • Centralus Skills Checklist for the unit must be fully completed and updated annually.
  • Core Competency Exam (Nursing) with a minimum score of 80%, updated annually.
  • Resume accounting for all employment and gaps for last 7 years, including education history.
  • Two professional references:
    • One supervisor reference from last 12 months
    • One supervisor or peer reference from last 3 years
  • Employment verification of most recent employer (agency verification accepted).
  • Signed and dated job description.
  • Completion of required forms and acknowledgements including:
    • Health Personal Information Form
    • Code of Conduct
    • Confirmation of Assignment Form
    • Self Study Packet and Quiz
    • Sexual Harassment Acknowledgement
    • Parking Registration Form
    • AH Drug Tobacco Acknowledgement
    • Epic Questionnaire (must be completed prior to submission)
    • TB Questionnaire Form

Additional Notes

  • Color headshot photo required (clear, professional, no filters or sunglasses).
  • Education verification required for initial degree (ASN or BSN).
  • Extended travelers beyond one year must complete a reassessment form.
  • Education mission statement must be reviewed and signed for initial assignments.

This position is ideal for an experienced Emergency Department RN comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity environment with a focus on compliance and credentialing.
