Description

Registered Nurse (PCU/Stepdown) - Council Bluffs, Iowa

Contract Details

Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours per shift: 12 hours
Hours per week: 36 hours
Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling with shifts 06:30-19:00 and 18:30-07:00
Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday
Orientation: One 12-hour shift on the unit

Unit and Patient Population

Unit type: Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown)
Number of beds: 22
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
Common patient diagnoses: Heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke
Nurse aids/patient care tech ratio: 1:10
Charge nurse: Present on each shift and takes a full patient assignment
Respiratory therapy equipment: CPAP; RNs troubleshoot only
Telemetry: RNs must read and interpret cardiac monitor strips

Clinical Responsibilities

RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin)
May float to ICU if appropriate and experienced

Required Certifications and Qualifications

Current RN license
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)

Additional Requirements and Policies

Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
Candidates cannot be currently or recently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) within the past year at any facility associated with certain large healthcare systems within 50 miles
Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
Fast-paced environment requiring positive attitude, teamwork, and patient-centered care
