Registered Nurse (Med Surg/IMC/Telemetry) - Night Shift

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Stepdown, Med Surg with Telemetry
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-7 (average 6, must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• Patient Population:

  • Up to 75% cardiac patients (pre/post cath, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMI, procedural cardiac cases)
  • Other diagnoses include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, stroke overflow

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Minimum 1 year experience in Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown nursing
• Majority of experience must be cardiac-focused
• Drip experience required; RNs must titrate drips such as insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and lasix
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Shift & Scheduling Details

• Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
• Typical Night Shift Hours: 1900 - 0700
• Hours per week: 48
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed

Unit Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: Has patients but generally a reduced assignment to support staff and perform charge duties
• Nurse Aides:

  • Day/PM: 1 aide per 9 patients
  • Night: 1 aide per 14 patients (if fully staffed)
• Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Provide 24/7 monitoring remotely; nurses check monitors on unit for rhythm verification
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest PT; no ventilators

Additional Information

• Floating: Staff may float to other Med/Surg floors or outside the cluster for 1:1 patient observation; specialty experience may influence float assignments
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional; scrubs not provided
• Orientation: One 12-hour day off-unit and one 12-hour shift on-unit orientation required
• Timekeeping: Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with the facility must have ended at least 6 months prior to submission

Summary

This is a 13-week night shift RN position on a busy cardiac-focused Med Surg/IMC Telemetry unit requiring strong cardiac and telemetry nursing skills, drip titration experience, and the ability to manage up to 7 patients on nights. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team, floating as needed, and meeting weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
