Surgical Tech Travel Job – Northridge, California

Job Overview

• Position: Surgical Tech (OR Tech)
• Location: Northridge, California
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Length: 8-hour shifts
• Shifts Available: Evening (2:45pm–11:15pm), Night (10:45pm–7:15am)
• Average Cases per Day: 14
• Operating Rooms: 12 general OR suites, 1 cardiovascular OR (CVOR) suite, 1 hybrid room
• EMR System: Cerner Surginet
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR Tech experience
• Active BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA
• Experience with trauma, orthopedic (total joints), general surgery, ENT, gynecology, urology, plastics, vascular, neurology, and robotics (Da Vinci)
• Must be very experienced and comfortable working alone with one RN during night shifts (11pm–7am)
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not explicitly required

Work Environment & Responsibilities

• Call Requirements:

  • Weekday call: 4–8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled)
  • Weekend call: Required every 4th weekend for 7am–3pm and 3pm–11pm shifts; variable for 11pm–7am shift
• No floating for techs or RNs
• Floor-specific orientation: 2–3 shifts on unit
• Scrubbing required for techs; not required but preferred for RNs
• Common case types include trauma, ortho, general, CVOR (open heart, valves, thoracotomy) but travelers typically not required to do CVOR unless specified
• Surgeon is not in-house 24/7; OB anesthesia available 24/7 as needed
• RT and Pharmacy services available 24/7
• Scrub color and supplies provided

Additional Notes

• Weekend and holiday coverage includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter months
• No IV team support
• Ratio: 1:1 tech to RN
• Sterile processing techs require separate certification and experience (not applicable to this Surgical Tech role)
