Registered Nurse – PCU Float (Travel/Contract)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Float assignment covering Medical-Surgical (MS), MS Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) diagnoses.
  • Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics.
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS/MS Telemetry: 1:5-6
  • Floating required to all MS, MS Telemetry, and PCU units within the hospital.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract).
  • Call: None.
  • Holiday work expectations:
    • If 1 major holiday occurs during assignment, expected to work it.
    • If 2 major holidays occur, expected to work both.
    • If 3 major holidays occur, expected to work 2 of them.
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
  • Required to wear navy blue scrubs.
  • Electronic health record system: Epic (required). Other systems: Pyxis, SBAR.
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Information

  • Floating between units is mandatory.
  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; non-compliance may delay start by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling.
  • Locals accepted at the same rate.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are flexible and comfortable floating across multiple adult and geriatric care units, including telemetry and progressive care settings.
