Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • Potsdam, New York

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, 3 shifts per week
  • 12 hours per shift (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Total 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist within the last year
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure issued by American Heart Association
  • Harassment Prevention Training Certificate

Skills and Competencies

  • Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department experience
  • Proficient in airway management: extubation, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care and suctioning
  • Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
  • Medication administration including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled steroids, Isuprel, Lidocaine, Perforomist, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, Tobramycin, Xopenex
  • Use of aerosol setup masks, trach collars, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP, handheld nebulizers, T-piece
  • Troubleshooting high pressure alarms and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
  • May be asked to perform occasional EKGs after hours
  • Comfortable providing care to COVID-19 patients
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing care environments

Patient Population and Unit Details

  • Care areas include 6-bed ICU, Emergency Room, Medical/Surgical, Pediatrics, and low volume newborn stabilization
  • Primarily adult patients, but must be comfortable with pediatric and newborn stabilization prior to transport
  • Routine medication delivery through invasive and noninvasive ventilator management
  • Respiratory therapy department operates 24/7

Preferred Equipment Experience

  • Ventilators: Servo I, LTV, Hamilton T1

Orientation and Uniform

  • Unit orientation includes ABG interpretation
  • Scrubs: Any

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks (National, State, County, Social Security, Sex Offender Registry)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification for degree related to respiratory therapy
  • Online license verification for NY State license within 30 days of start
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (PAPR education if fit test failed)
  • Immunizations and titers within required timeframes:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titers or vaccinations)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series completion, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccinations, or documented history)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panel required)
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
  • Completion of facility-specific training modules and policy reviews prior to start
  • Professional references (2 required)
  • Employment application and 7-year work history verification
  • Annual skills checklist update

This position requires a licensed Respiratory Therapist with critical care skills, flexibility to work with various patient populations including pediatrics and newborns, and the ability to work independently in a 24/7 respiratory therapy department. Compliance with extensive credentialing, background checks, immunizations, and competency requirements is mandatory.
