Staff Nurse – Night Shift

Location: Johnson City, New York

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered care by protecting, promoting, and optimizing health, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN is accountable for compliance with nursing standards, professional development, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients as primary or accountable nurse.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
• Manage resources effectively, including staffing, time, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory policies.
• Participate in shared governance, unit councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
• Support learning for new employees and students.
• Provide routine couplet care on a postpartum unit, including parent education and emergency interventions for postpartum complications.
• Assist sister units such as Labor & Delivery and NICU with patient recovery, newborn care, and emergency support.

Work Schedule

• Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Med Surg experience: 1 year
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• EPIC proficiency
• Experience performing vaginal exams
• Post Partum experience
• Labor and Delivery experience
• NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings
• Unit-specific certifications such as RN-MNN, CLC, IBCLC (preferred but not required)
• Professional specialty certifications and relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit

Unit Environment

• Postpartum unit focused on routine couplet care (keeping mother and baby together)
• Emphasis on parent education and emergency postpartum care (e.g., hemorrhages)
• Support for Labor & Delivery and NICU units with patient recovery and newborn care

No prior travel experience is required for this position.
