- Nights, 12-hour shifts
- Shift times: 6:30 PM–6:30 AM
Unit Details
- PCU
- Adult patients; pediatric patients are rare and, when present, are age 15 or older
- 55 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 on days and nights
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Float required, ideally to medical-surgical areas
Required Qualifications
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
- Telemetry
- Driver’s license required at submittal
Additional Notes
- Manager interview only; no clinical involvement
- Pass/fail exam during orientation; a score of 90% is required to pass
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Nursing assistant support is available
- Charge nurse present
- Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness
- Common medications/drips include PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, and insulin
- Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
- Staffing is a noted challenge
- Strong hourly rounding and responsiveness are emphasized
