Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract
- 13 weeks
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour night shifts
Unit Overview
- Medical-surgical telemetry neuro unit
- 25 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Driver’s license required at submittal
- Must be outside the 50-mile radius
- Cannot be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
Clinical Experience / Skills
- Med-surg telemetry patient care
- Stroke care
- Stable neurological deficits
- Post-neurosurgery care
- Med-surg overflow patients
- Ability to titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips
- Familiarity with PCA pumps
- Some telemetry awareness
Schedule
- Travelers will be scheduled
- Limited block scheduling may be approved
- At least every other weekend
- 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s
Floating
- Required to float to other medical-surgical areas or units with med-surg patients waiting for a bed
Orientation
- 2 days of unit-specific orientation
Additional Notes
- Pass/fail open-book exam during orientation; 90% required to pass
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
- Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
- Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
- Unit serves a diverse patient population, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese speakers
