Description

ER Registered Nurse

Location

  • Bismarck, North Dakota

Contract

  • 13 weeks
  • 36 hours per week
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Start times vary: 7a-7p, 9a-9p, 11a-11p, 2p-2a, 7p-7a

Required Qualifications

  • Active BLS certification
  • Active ACLS certification
  • Active PALS certification
  • Active TNCC certification
  • RN license

Experience

  • Previous travel experience is preferred, but first-time travelers are accepted

Schedule Requirements

  • Every other weekend
  • Every other holiday
  • First to float
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed upfront for the full 13-week contract; additional time off is not approved

Unit Details

  • Level II emergency department
  • 21 beds/trauma bays, including fast track
  • Typical patient volume: 50–60 per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4 based on acuity, sometimes 1:5 when boarding
  • Common patient types include pediatrics through geriatrics, trauma, stroke, STEMI, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, and transfers
  • One psych room
  • Security is in-house 24/7
  • Charge nurse manages throughput and does not take an assignment
  • Usually 1 ED tech per shift, sometimes 2
  • Respiratory therapy is available in-house and handles equipment and breathing treatments
  • Telemetry strips are read and interpreted by the RN, with MD verification
  • CT is nearby; RN accompanies unstable patients
  • Phlebotomy is available as a resource
  • 1–2 shifts of unit orientation
