Job Description:
Urgent opening for a Respiratory Therapist - Adult at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. We are seeking experienced professionals to provide critical care support across various hospital units, including ICU and Medical/Surgical floors. The ideal candidate must be able to start by December 29, 2025, or sooner, due to urgent staffing needs.

- Location: 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157
- 885 licensed beds
- Level 1 Trauma Designation
- Teaching Hospital / Academic Medical Center
- Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
Department Information:
- Patient census varies daily, with assignments based on workload, including ICU and Medical/Surgical units
- Typical patient diagnoses include post-surgical recovery, pneumonia, COPD, asthma, and ED patients
- Critical care experience (minimum 2 years) required, with preference given to candidates with previous Level 1 trauma or high-acuity experience
- First-time travelers considered
Certifications & Licenses:
- North Carolina License (Adult RT)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of critical care respiratory therapy experience, ideally in high-acuity or trauma settings
- Prior experience with advanced respiratory equipment such as Servo U, Servo Air, The Vest, Volara, Aerogen, Heated High Flow, and cough assist devices; pediatric experience with HFJV and HFOV preferred
- Proficiency with EMR systems, specifically EPIC
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team supporting both adult and pediatric patients
Support & Supervision:
- Lead Therapists oversee each shift, fostering teamwork and quality patient care
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- Department-specific equipment experience: Servo U, Servo Air, The Vest, Volara, Aerogen, Heated High Flow, Cough Assist, HFJV, HFOV
Work Environment & Schedule:
- No floating required; assignments based on experience and departmental needs
- Orientation includes Neonatal-Encephalopathy (NEO) and departmental onboarding (1-2 days)
- Shift options: 06:30 – 19:00 or 18:30 – 07:00, every 6 weeks cycle
- Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
- Holiday work: 75% of holidays required
- No on-call hours
- Parking: Free employee parking
- Scrub color: Pewter (charcoal grey)

Other Details:
- Weekly Stipend: $1,246.00
- Weekly Taxable Pay: $1,922.87
- Contract Duration: 13.0 months (through March 28, 2026)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

What You Bring:
- At least 2 years of critical care respiratory therapy experience, preferably in a Level 1 trauma or high-acuity hospital setting
- Valid North Carolina RT license, RRT certification, BLS, and ACLS certifications
- Strong knowledge of advanced respiratory equipment and ICU protocols
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively within a diverse team
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Flexibility to work flexible hours, including holidays, with a reliable and professional attitude
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, or related healthcare field preferred
- Prior experience with pediatric respiratory devices like HFJV and HFOV is a plus
- Experience working in teaching hospitals, trauma centers, or with complex patient populations is highly desired
