Setting: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced CVICU Registered Nurse to support a high-acuity cardiovascular intensive care unit. This role requires strong clinical expertise in managing immediate post-operative open heart patients and delivering critical care in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with advanced cardiac cases and handling complex patient conditions independently from day one.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a CVICU setting
Manage immediate post-operative open heart recovery patients
Monitor and treat hemodynamically unstable or high-risk cardiac patients
Administer medications, IV therapies, and critical care interventions
Interpret cardiac telemetry and EKG rhythms
Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams for patient care planning
Document patient care accurately in EMR
Patient Population
Post open-heart surgery patients
Cardiac and vascular surgical cases
Patients with conditions including CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, sepsis, DVT, PE, and other acute conditions
Clinical Skills & Equipment
Ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive)
Central lines, arterial lines (A-lines), chest tubes
Multiple IV pumps and infusion therapies
Nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation
Cardiac monitoring and advanced critical care equipment
Requirements
Active RN License (must be in good standing)
Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU or Critical Care experience
Recent Open Heart Recovery experience required (must be able to manage post-op patients independently on Day 1)
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
Additional Details
EMR System: Meditech
No holiday requirement
On-call may be required
Overtime applicable after 40 hours/week
