Position Overview

Heywood Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for an urgent 13-week contract assignment. The Respiratory Therapist will provide comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients requiring respiratory assessment, therapeutic interventions, oxygen therapy, ventilator support, and pulmonary diagnostics.

The ideal candidate will possess strong critical care respiratory experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to work efficiently within fast-paced acute care environments.

This is a rapid response crisis opportunity requiring immediate availability or quick start capability.

Key Responsibilities
Assess, monitor, and treat patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders
Administer respiratory therapy treatments and oxygen therapy
Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and analysis
Operate and monitor mechanical ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP systems
Perform pulse oximetry and pulmonary function testing
Conduct EKG procedures and ensure accurate recordings
Assist physicians with bronchoscopy procedures as needed
Evaluate patient response to respiratory interventions and recommend care plan modifications
Educate patients and families regarding respiratory treatments and equipment usage
Administer medications per physician orders
Maintain accurate and timely documentation within Meditech EMR
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Implement and maintain VAP bundle protocols and respiratory care standards
Monitor patient safety and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
Minimum Requirements
Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory Therapy Program
Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
Active Massachusetts Respiratory Therapist License required
Prior Respiratory Therapy experience required
Current ACLS Certification required or obtainable within 6 months
Current PALS Certification required or obtainable within 6 months
Current NRP Certification required or obtainable within 6 months
Strong ventilator management and critical care respiratory skills
Basic computer skills required
