Travel Physical Therapist (PT)

Location: Big Sandy, MT

Facility: Big Sandy Medical Center — a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic in north-central Montana

Start Date: October 15, 2026 (earlier start welcome)

Contract: Minimum 12 weeks, with possible extension

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, 40 hours/week — no weekends, no holidays, no call

NuWest Healthcare is seeking an experienced Travel Physical Therapist to join Montana Health Network at Big Sandy Medical Center. This is a great opportunity for a PT who enjoys a small-team environment, wants a predictable Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends or call, and is excited to help build and grow a rural outpatient therapy program.

Position Details

You'll manage a varied caseload spanning:

• Outpatient
• Inpatient/Acute Care
• Swing Bed

Typical daily volume is 5+ outpatient visits plus 2+ inpatient/swing bed patients, depending on census. The patient population ranges from pediatric through geriatric, with common needs including:

• Orthopedic and post-surgical rehabilitation
• Joint replacement follow-up
• Falls and balance
• Post-hospital deconditioning
• Work/farm-related injuries
• Chronic pain and mobility limitations

As the sole PT on site, you'll work independently while collaborating closely with nursing, clinic providers, and business office staff. The facility is also recruiting a PTA who would work under your supervision if hired during the contract.

Requirements

• Active Montana PT license or PT Compact privilege by start date
• Minimum 1 year of Physical Therapy experience
• Inpatient and outpatient experience
• Current BLS certification
• Individual NPI
• Must complete facility credentialing prior to seeing patients

Experience with Medicare Part A/Part B documentation, swing bed patients, rural Critical Access Hospitals, orthopedic/manual therapy, or balance/vestibular treatment is highly valued.

Big Sandy Medical Center is located approximately 40 miles from Havre, Montana. Physical Therapy is housed in the facility's newly opened Wellness Center, and its outpatient program is growing — this is a meaningful opportunity to have real input in building a rural therapy program from the ground up.

A note on the season: This contract extends into the Montana winter, so reliable winter transportation and comfort with winter driving are important.
