Pediatric Oncology RN Job Details
- Location: New Haven, Connecticut (06510)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: January 2, 2026 – End: April 3, 2026)
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (19:00 – 07:00), 3 shifts per week
- Hours per Week: 36
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Unit: Pediatric Hematology & Oncology; float to Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit as needed
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:3 (nights 3-4)
- Charting System: Epic EMR
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required to all pediatric units, including PICU, NNICU, and ED (floor-level assignments)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1,990–$2,130
Pediatric Oncology RN Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent pediatric oncology nursing experience (1.5 years accepted with Level I or travel nurse experience)
- Active Registered Nurse license (CT RN license in process or pending accepted; must apply prior to submission)
- APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) certification required
- Chemotherapy Administration certification required
- BLS Skills certification required
- CPHON/CPON certification preferred
- Proficient in chemotherapy administration, blood and blood product transfusion, central line care, and pediatric oncology symptom management
- One professional reference required
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Local candidates (within 75 miles) not accepted
Pediatric Oncology Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients, including bone marrow transplant recipients
- Administer chemotherapy and blood products, manage ports and central lines, and monitor for adverse reactions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services
- Float as needed to other pediatric units (PICU, NNICU, ED) with floor-level assignments
- Document patient care and interventions accurately using Epic EMR
- Participate in orientation and required training modules prior to start
- Educate and support pediatric patients and families throughout the treatment process
