PCU Float RN Job Details
- Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Southwestern Virginia nursing jobs)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1,880 - $2,020
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available)
- Start Date: December 29, 2025
- Shift: 3x12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available by request
- Hours per Week: 36
- Setting: PCU/Medical-Surgical Float Pool
- Charting: EPIC electronic health record system
- Patient Ratios: PCU 5:1, Med-Surg 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block or every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 1 holiday per 13-week contract
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or Compact State); pending license accepted for non-compact single-state
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Stepdown RN experience required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association preferred)
- Proficiency with EPIC charting system
- Clinical skills: IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care
- Experience with trach management, non-invasive airway support (CPAP/BiPAP), and chest tubes
- Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, titrating cardiac drips, rapid response/code team participation
- Experience with PCA, heparin protocols, IV insulin, and telemetry
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
PCU Float RN Responsibilities
- Float between all Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical units as staffing needs require (may float 2-3 times per shift)
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult and geriatric populations
- Administer medications, manage IVs, and perform blood product administration
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, respond to emergencies, and titrate cardiac drips
- Provide care for patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, and non-invasive ventilation
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Accurately document all care in EPIC EHR
- Participate in orientation and ongoing clinical training as required
