Summary
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Women's Health (WH CPS) s responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and timely medication therapy for obstetric, gynecologic, maternalfetal medicine, and newborn populations (as needed). The specialist practices in a hybrid inpatientoutpatient model providing centralized and decentralized pharmacy clinical care across the antenatal/antepartum unit, labor & delivery including (L&D) operating rooms, postpartum unit, gynecologic surgery (Gynecologic Oncology if applicable), healthy newborn nursery, and embedded OB/ maternalfetal medicine (MFM) clinics, Gestational diabetes and hypertension-in-pregnancy ambulatory clinics.
Pharmacy Clinical Specialists proficiently provide direct patient-centered care and integrated operational pharmacy services within both decentralized and ambulatory practice settings. The Womens Health Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is aligned with interdisciplinary OB/GYN, MFM, newborn, and womens health service lines and ensures consistent, evidence-based medication therapy management based on ACOG, SMFM, ASHP, and Lee Health institutional guidelines.
The Womens Health Clinical Specialist serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and liaison between pharmacy, obstetrics, MFM, gynecologic surgery, newborn services, lactation medicine, and ambulatory clinics. The specialist contributes to clinical research, practice advancement, quality improvement (QI) initiatives, protocol development, and precepts pharmacy learners.
Requirements
Education:Pharm.D. from College of Pharmacy Accredited by American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy or equivalent clinical experience (to be evaluated on individual basis).
Experience:Two years of Clinical Pharmacy experience required. Completion of pharmacy residency program preferred.
Certification:Board certification in area of specialty practice or obtained within 18 months of hire or start date in the position.
Board certification is not required for the Skilled Nursing Facility.
BLS (American Heart Association/Basic Life Support) required (must be obtained within first 90 days of hire). ACLS (AHA) and/or PALS (AHA), depending on practice site.
License:State of Florida Pharmacist License required. Consultant Pharmacist license required for specialists working in the Skilled Nursing Facility.
Other: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, data entry skills, analytical and advanced math skills required. Ability to cope with confrontation. Ability to assist in the supervision and education of staff pharmacists and technicians. Specialty expertise in the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist area of practice (currently Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, Ambulatory Specialty Clinics or Skilled Nursing Facility Care).
