Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist - Acute Care Hospital

Location

  • Saint Louis, Missouri

Employment Type

  • Travel / Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (start time flexible up to 8:00 AM)
  • Required to work one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) during each 4-week period, with a compensatory day off during that week
  • 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within therapy service lines may be required to meet facility needs

Job Description

  • Provide occupational therapy services to patients with cardiopulmonary, neurological, orthopedic, medical, trauma, surgical, and oncology conditions
  • Primary role is inpatient acute care in a level one trauma hospital setting
  • Establish treatment plans considering discharge needs, expected functional status, and appropriate equipment/supplies
  • Educate, collaborate, and confer with patients, families, and healthcare providers; make recommendations for specialist referrals as needed
  • Delegate tasks to assistants and technicians based on competency and patient needs
  • Complete documentation according to departmental policies
  • Use specialized equipment including vital carts, SPH equipment, iPad interpreter, and ADL supplies

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Occupational Therapist experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Black or Gray

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest related degree required before start
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel; must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Completion of regulatory compliance education and orientation modules through the facility’s learning system (approximately 16 hours)
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)

Additional Notes

  • Floating may be required within therapy service lines but not to sister facilities
  • Parking options available (monthly passes)
  • No prior travel experience required for this position
