Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Location: El Paso, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Overview

  • Pediatric unit with 19 beds total: 10 PICU beds and 9 Pediatric beds
  • Staff: 27 total (Day shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses; Night shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • PICU: 1 nurse to 2 patients
    • Intermediate Care (IMC): 1:3 (or 1:4 with Patient Care Technician)
    • Pediatrics: 1:5 (or 1:6 with Patient Care Technician)
  • Equipment includes Hillrom beds, GC monitors, ICU Medial Plum 360 pumps, and Medfusion syringe pumps
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Meditech
  • No call requirements
  • Weekend shifts: 4 per month (AM shifts cover Saturday and Sunday; PM shifts cover Friday and Saturday)

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a pediatric intensive care setting
  • Care for a wide range of patients from post-surgical appendicitis to critically ill patients with septic shock requiring vasoactive drips and mechanical ventilation
  • Typical procedures performed:
    • Lumbar punctures
    • Intubations
    • Chest tube placements
    • Conscious sedation

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care (1 year of experience)
  • PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients

  • Dress code: Galaxy blue scrubs required
  • Permanent positions available on the unit
