Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Float required; may be assigned to other units based on need and skill set
  • Staffing ratio at night: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Patient age group: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Patient diagnoses commonly seen: Stroke/TIA, Seizure, Syncope, Pneumonia, Chest Pain, Dialysis, Acute Kidney Failure, Post Heart Catheterization, Respiratory Failure, Encephalopathy, Congestive Heart Failure, Sepsis
  • Unit handles inpatient stroke and TIA patients and higher acuity medical-surgical patients
  • Special procedures include peritoneal dialysis and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Medication system used: Omnicell

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
    • BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Driver’s license required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty
  • Background check: 7-year history within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
  • Education verification of highest level completed
  • Primary source verification of Tennessee RN license within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening: 5-panel within 12 months, updated annually
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot within 90 days)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (second vaccine can be pending if collected within 28 days)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
  • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required
  • Pass/fail testing for medication and arrhythmia exams required prior to orientation (two attempts allowed, 84% passing score)
  • Completion of online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment (approx. 12 hours) mandatory before start
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, plain background, no alterations)

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy applies but is not required for this location
  • Candidate must be prepared for a high-acuity med-surg environment with a focus on patient experience
  • Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable time onsite separate from online modules
  • Candidates must complete all required testing and documentation before being cleared to start

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity inpatient setting focused on stroke and medical-surgical care.
