Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Care for critically ill patients in the ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, occasionally flexing to 1:3.
- Required to work 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
- No call required.
- Floating required: may float to all ICUs, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 ratios.
- Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, including ICU experience within the last year.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Candidates must know their N95 mask size due to potential care of COVID-19 and isolation patients.
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Up-to-date immunizations including:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines.
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded as per hire date).
Competency & Training Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (annual, minimum 80% score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual, minimum 80% score)
- Core competencies Part I, II, and III (annual)
Additional Information
- Limited Return to Office (RTO) days allowed: 5 days total.
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years required within 6 months of start.
- Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days.
- Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 positive patients.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
