Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
Patient Population: Chest pain, abdominal pain, flank pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, awaiting placement, geri-psych placement
Unit Details:

• 32 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7
• Strong LPN and CNA support
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires

Job Responsibilities

• Float within skillset primarily to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
• Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float possible but unlikely
• Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
• Perform PIV insertion and manage stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
• Utilize strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Charting in EPIC (recent experience required; checkoff class provided)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Information

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
• Scrub color: Navy blue; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Three call-ins may result in termination
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week; guaranteed set hours except when unit is closed for holidays
