Description
Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
- Overtime: Begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- Float Requirement:
- First to float within skillset
- Possible float to nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles away) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
- Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement:
- Work three weekends every six-week schedule
- Every other holiday
- On Call/Call Back: Not required
- Unit Info:
- 23 beds
- Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
- Welcoming to travelers with strong teamwork culture
- Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs only; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or competing agency logos
- Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)
Patient Population & Skills
- Cardiac patients (chest pain, stress test/Lexiscan, post cath without intervention)
- CVA/TIA, hypotension, syncope/dizziness, shortness of breath
- Post-surgical care (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, stone removal)
- GI/Urology pre/post procedure
- Acute kidney injury, cellulitis, detox/CIWA
- Skills required:
- Cardiac cath recovery (femoral/TR bands)
- NIHSS/Neuro assessment and dysphagia screening
- Initiate and titrate drips (Heparin, Insulin)
- Indwelling drain management
- Straight catheter and Foley care
- NG tube insertion
- Blood administration and documentation
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Notes
- No local candidates within 40-mile radius considered
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly
- Guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when unit may be closed
