Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry)
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care
- 42-bed Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry unit
- Patient ratio: 1:6 (high acuity)
- Experience with dysrhythmias and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Tridil, Amiodarone) required
- Must be strong with high-acuity patients
Shift & Scheduling
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- 36 or 48 hours per week options; block scheduling available
- Every other week (EOW) scheduling required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Experience with dysrhythmias
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Compliance & Documentation
- Background checks: 7-year criminal history, SS trace, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted
- Physical exam: Initial and annual attestation of ability to meet physical demands
- Fit mask test: Annual, must be completed prior to start (approved mask models only)
- Immunizations:
- Flu vaccine required for all (medical/religious exemptions accepted; mask required if exempt)
- COVID vaccine voluntary (2 doses Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose J&J)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Titers or vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (booster or declination required if low titer)
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results required prior to orientation (time sensitive)
- Facility-specific modules must be completed by Friday prior to start (includes HIPAA attestation and core competency exams I-III)
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of signing (passport-style, no nose rings)
- Preferred badge name must be confirmed
Additional Requirements
- Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local candidates)
- Return to Office (RTO) preferred 3–5 days, max 7 days per 13-week contract
- Former permanent staff ineligible for 10 years
- EMR system: Epic
- Scrubs: Navy bottoms and white top
References & History
- Proof of 2 clinical references within last 12 months (up to 18 months if necessary)
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with high-acuity cardiac and neurovascular patients, who meet strict licensure, certification, and compliance requirements, and are willing to commit to a 13-week travel contract on night shift.
