PICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting.
  • Care for patients from infancy through age 25, including specialized care for epilepsy monitoring.
  • Must be able to work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a SafeMedicate medication administration exam.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting completed within 12 months of start and updated annually; must be done under nursing code 4723.09. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PAPRs require approval if mask fit fails due to facial hair.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters required if titers negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination (agency-approved medical/religious exemptions accepted)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal)
    • Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive, with annual TB questionnaire if applicable.
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Orientation & Testing

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
  • Baseline competency exams during orientation:
    • SafeMedicate medication administration exam (90% passing score)
    • ECG interpretation exam (80% passing score)
  • Candidates unsuccessful on first attempt receive remediation and retake opportunities.
  • Not required for legacy candidates or agency flips with less than 6 months gap between contracts at this facility.

References & Work History

  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar specialty area.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Must maintain certifications and license current throughout assignment.
  • Must comply with all health and safety documentation and immunization requirements prior to start.
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
  • Candidates with medical or religious exemptions for vaccines or mask fit must submit appropriate documentation for approval.
