Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro ICU
  • Shift: Day/Night rotation every 4 weeks (estimated based on unit needs)
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per week: 36 hours
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR): Epic

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with ventilator management
  • Experience with intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Experience using Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (3M 1860/1870+, Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start, updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application required, including education details
  • Skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
  • Confidential fraud, waste, and abuse reporting mechanism form required
